In the last 2 weeks this is the second time I see something like this:
Now, I remember when similar things where happening twice a day with Windows. As at today my Windows 7 tablet, despite being running a RC version on a quite old hardware, is stable and truly snappy. Can’t say the same of my almost new MacBook 
and this is sad, for a person that started using Apple computers back in 1979.
My current balance tells me that the upgrade to Snow Leopard, till now, has caused mainly a negative impact on my productivity. If we add that, more and more, I find spending my days in a browser with limited if any interaction with the OS, than stability is THE FEATURE.

I do not think David Allen is completely true about multitasking. I do not believe it is just “quick refocus”. It takes time and exercise to practice multitasking, but I believe this is something within the capabilities of our processor brain.
While I agree that GTD is good and can help all of us free up our resources, I think that GTD should start from what not to put on a to do list, hence this post title.
I’m doing a test in these days. I’m using RTM (Remember the Milk), which is one of my favourite tools, to manage all my tasks. But, I’m also building, every day, a 3-tasks mental list (no need for a tool here). I give my mental list a higher priority, so that RTM comes in only when my 3 top most important tasks are completed. By keeping the list down to 3 I find myself, quite often, working in parallel on all of them.
The first results are showing me that, more and more, this is giving me so much less distractions that I’m already enjoying a better productivity. This also makes the tasks in RTM the kind of tasks (not too important and easy to forget) I can crunch really quickly. Meanwhile I’m learning to choose wisely what to put in my 3-tasks list and what to declare not completed but “undone”.

Most of the tech blogs I read, on a weekly basis, reiterate the chance to see an Apple tablet released.
They insist on speculating on the form factor. Some of them predict a bigger iPhone. Some of them are looking forward for a convertible Macbook. Honestly, I’ve no clue if this is going to happen, but I believe they are missing the key point.
There are, I think, good reasons related to the little acceptance the market has given to tablets. While I love tablets and I own two of them, I’ve to admit that what is still missing is a killer application that can drive the shift from the traditional keyboard. Microsoft has done a good job with One-Note, getting close to building one. But reality is that, despite the unique features offered by One-Note, I can live without it. And this is why I spend 90+% of my typing time on a Mac.
A killer application for tablets should leverage touch and pen input to a level that changes the way we do things dramatically. Today, most of the tablets in the market are traditional PCs that offer some complex way of inputing data with a pen. It is funny, sometimes fascinating, but not a good reason enough to move to a new platform and pay for the associated premium.
What Apple did with the iPhone is what we should expect from an Apple tablet. Not just a tablet with an Apple logo and OSX but something that redefine the tablet category and offer a new and incredibly nice user experience.
Could be tomorrow? In a year? Who knows? But please don’t give me a bigger iPhone with no additional touch specific killer apps. The chance to buy a modded Macbook with a touch screen is already there but looks like nobody is truly caring about it.

As, more and more, “the desktop is the browser”, it is likely that Google Fast Flip will gain a place in one of my always open tabs.
While I tend to select my news sources, I get overwhelmed by “traditional news sources” info. So Fast Flip looks like a tool that will help me run through some “traditional” news within the time they deserve.

Sto provando Yojimbo. E’ da tempo che cerco un sostituto al pur interessante NoteBook di Circus Ponies. In realtà l’unico programma che rimpiango del Tablet PC che ho regalato a mia figlia è OneNote e anche se è difficile fare paragoni tra una piattaforma pen-based e una non, la possibilità di prendere appunti destrutturati e lasciare al laptop il compito di garantirmi la loro reperibilità in un secondo momento resta per me una cosa di valore fondamentale. La cosa che preferisco di OneNote e cioè la possibilità di salvare un qualsiasi documento inviandolo come se OneNote fosse una stampante, l’ho ritrovata con piacere in Yojimbo. L’interfaccia è anche più semplice (cosa sempre apprezzabile) e la velocità sorprendente, grazie all’integrazione con Spotlight.
Le premesse sono buone.
Ottimo anche il fatto che il prodotto della Bare Bones Software Inc. venga offerto in prova per 30 giorni senza limitarne le funzioni in alcun modo.
Per decidere se comprare o meno Yojimbo cercherò di non farmi condizionare dalla mia passione per il cinema.

Erano anni, che non rileggevo The Conscience of a Hacker, forse più noto come The Hacker Manifesto. Sono cambiate molte cose da allora (sicurmente il fatto che nessuno parli più di baud per second) altre sembrano scritte ieri. C’è meno risentimento ma il fatto stesso che oggi si distingua tra cracker e ethical hacker è segno che sarà difficile togliere alla parola hacker una connotazione fortemente negativa che nel parlare comune le si è attribuito. Io, dal canto mio, li chiamo hacker e basta (la parola contiene già una forte etica

La presentazoine del G1 prodotto dalla HTC per T-Mobile e Google ha inondato la rete. La sensazione, sarà complice l’inizio dell’Autunno, è che faccia freddo. Ad eccezione di chi è o si atteggia a geek le prime review evidenziano le sostanziali differenze tra il lancio dell’iPhone e quello del G1.
Fermo restando che per me sarà un must mettere le mani su un G1, se penso al perchè, mi rispondo “piattaforma”. Quando ho comprato l’iPhone mi ero detto “oggetto del desiderio”.
L’hype creato da Apple non ha paragoni e anche Android non ha potuto nulla. Mancava l’attesa, non dico nei soliti smanettoni, ma sul mercato.
Certo se il G1 fosse stato non dico bello, ma neanche la Prinz degli smartphone, la cosa avrebbe aiutato a creare un’onda. Al momento l’unica cosa che fa muovere le foglie della rete è una sana curiosità di pochi affezionati.

Sempre nei cereali si può trovare un altro strumento decisionale. Ma qui non ci siamo proprio. Mentre il precedente tool presentato su stvdicorsa dava al bravo manager la possibilità di cavarsela nel 50% dei casi e offriva in ogni caso la possibilità di restare sul vago, qui al manager è richiesto di provare con una probabilità di successo pari a 1/6. Follia…
